OMPTG Free State information update
Free State OMPTG
The following courses were organized for the second half of 2011. Courses, so far has been relatively well attended and thoroughly enjoyed. We really aimed to get interesting and renowned speakers to Bloemfontein and also introduced more evening lectures/ discussions this year.
In May Dr I. Diener came to share her extensive knowledge regarding cervicogenic headaches and TMJ assessment and treatment thereof. The course was fully booked two months in advance already, and everyone enjoyed it thoroughly! Truly a wonderful learning opportunity.
The last weekend in July we will be hosting Leonie Viljoen in Bloemfontein to present her lumbar M.A.P course. MAP is a process of assessment, diagnosis and treatment of Biomechanical Dysfunctions. Designed by Fred Mitchell Sr. who developed a soft tissue technique involving gentle isometric contractions to alter Biomechanics.MAP is scientifically based on the myotatic reflex in muscles as described under the principle of muscle physiology and therefore a more scientific definition for Muscle Energy Techniques (MET).
Her thoracic courses last year provided many new assessment and treatment techniques and we look forward to learn new treatment techniques for the lumbo-pelvic area,
For the first time this year we will organized an evening ethics lecture specifically focusing on the ethical procedures, principals and protocols regarding consent for specific OMT techniques, treatments and documentation. This will be led by Roline Barnes, an OMT lecturer at the University of the Free State as well as a OMT course lecturer and assistant for the past few years.
So far this has been a wonderfully exciting and busy year for OMT Free State and we look forward to an even better 2012!
